The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Night as it conceals (the light); 1 And [by] the day when it appears 2 And Him who created the male and female, 3 Indeed, your efforts are diverse. 4 As for him who gave out his wealth (for Allah's sake) and abstained (from disobeying Him), 5 And testifieth to the Good, 6 We shall surely ease him to the Easing. 7 And as for him who is niggardly and considers himself free from need (of Allah), 8 and he belied the finest 9 We shall surely ease for him the Path of Hardship (the Fire). 10 and what will his wealth avail him when he goes down [to his grave]? 11 Lo! Ours it is (to give) the guidance 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 I have now warned you of the Blazing Fire, 14 None shall roast therein but the most wretched, 15 Who denies and turns away. 16 And away from it shall be kept the one who guards most (against evil), 17 the Godfearing who spends his wealth to purify himself; 18 not as payment for favours received, 19 But only seeking the countenance of his Lord, Most High. 20 He will surely be well-pleased (with him). 21
