Said the chieftains of Firaun’s people, “He is really an expert magician.” 109 who seeks to drive you from your land what do you command' 110 They said: "Put him and his brother off (for a time), and send callers (men) to the cities to collect (and) - 111 to bring together at the Pharaohs court all the skillful magicians. 112 So there came the sorcerers to Pharaoh: They said, "of course we shall have a (suitable) reward if we win!" 113 He said, "Yes, and, [moreover], you will be among those made near [to me]." 114 They said, 'Moses, wilt thou cast, or shall we be the casters?' 115 "You cast it first," answered Moses. When they cast their spell, they bewitched the eyes of the people and petrified them by conjuring up a great charm. 116 And we revealed unto Musa: cast down thy rod. And lo! it was swallowing up that which they had feigned. 117 ۞ Thus was the Truth vindicated and that which they were doing was made vain. 118 They were therefore defeated here and they turned back humiliated. 119 And the magicians were obliged to fall prostrate. 120 They said, "We have believed in the Lord of the worlds, 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron." 122 Pharaoh said: 'What! Do you believe before you have my permission? Surely this is a plot you have contrived to drive out the rulers from the capital. So you shall see, 123 I will certainly cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, then will I crucify you all together. 124 They answered: "We have (in any case) to go back to our Lord. 125 for thou takest vengeance on us only because we have come to believe in our Sustainer's messages as soon as they came to us. O our Sustainer! Shower us with patience in adversity, and make us die as men who have surrendered themselves unto Thee!" 126
