۞ It is He who created you from one soul and created from it its mate that he might dwell in security with her. And when he covers her, she carries a light burden and continues therein. And when it becomes heavy, they both invoke Allah, their Lord, "If You should give us a good [child], we will surely be among the grateful." 189 And yet, as soon as He has granted them sound [offspring,] they begin to ascribe to other powers beside Him a share in bringing about what He has granted them! Sublimely exalted, however, is God - above anything to which men may ascribe a share in His divinity! 190 Do they associate those with Him who cannot create a thing, and are themselves created, 191 And they have no power to give them help, nor can they help themselves. 192 If you call them to guidance, they will not follow you. It is the same whether you call them or you are silent. 193 Surely those whom you call on besides Allah are in a state of subjugation like yourselves; therefore call on them, then let them answer you if you are truthful. 194 Have they feet to walk with? Have they hands to hold with? Have they eyes to see with? Have they ears to hear with? Say, "Call upon those you associate with God as partners, then all of you contrive against me and give me no respite. 195 Indeed, my protector is Allah, who has sent down the Book; and He is an ally to the righteous. 196 And those whom ye call upon besides Him cannot succour you nor themselves they can succour. 197 And if you invite them to guidance, they do not hear; and you see them looking towards you, yet they do not see. 198 Show forgiveness, enjoin what is good, and turn away from the foolish (i.e. don't punish them). 199 And if there prompt thee a prompting from the Satan, seek refuge with Allah; verily He is Hearing, Knowing. 200 Surely those who guard (against evil), when a visitation from the Shaitan afflicts them they become mindful, then lo! they see. 201 And their brothers, they prolong them in error, and they will never stop. 202 And when you do not bring a (Qur'anic) verse to them, they say: "Why don't you make one up?" Say: "I follow only what my Lord reveals to me." These (revelations) are an evident proof from your Lord, and a guidance and grace for those who believe. 203 So when the Qur'an is recited, listen carefully to it, and keep silent so that you may, be shown mercy.' 204 And do thou (O Muhammad) remember thy Lord within thyself humbly and with awe, below thy breath, at morn and evening. And be not thou of the neglectful. 205 Indeed, those who are near your Lord are not prevented by arrogance from His worship, and they exalt Him, and to Him they prostrate. ۩ 206
