The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Alif-Lam-Ra; these are verses of the Book and the bright Qur’an. 1 And it will come to pass that those who are [now] bent on denying this truth will wish that they had surrendered themselves to God [in their life time]. 2 Leave them to eat and enjoy life and let false hopes amuse them. They will soon come to know. 3 And We destroyed no township but there was a known decree for it. 4 Every nation can only live for the time appointed for it. 5 And they say, "O you upon whom the message has been sent down, indeed you are mad. 6 If you are a man of truth, why can't you bring the angels to us?" 7 We do not send the angels but with truth, and then they would not be respited. 8 then they would not be respited. It is We who have sent down the Remembrance, and We watch over it. 9 And We had certainly sent [messengers] before you, [O Muhammad], among the sects of the former peoples. 10 And never came there unto them a messenger but they did mock him. 11 Thus do We let it (polytheism and disbelief) enter into the hearts of the Mujrimun [criminals, polytheists, pagans, etc. (because of their mockery at the Messengers)]. 12 They do not believe in it even though the practice of the ancients has already gone. 13 Though We opened to them a gate in heaven, and still they mounted through it, 14 They would certainly say: Only our eyes have been covered over, rather we are an enchanted people. 15
