And rehearse to them (something of) Abraham's story. 69 [how it was] when he asked his father and his people, "What is it that you worship?" 70 They said: "We worship idols, and to them we are ever devoted." 71 He said: "Do they listen to you when ye call (on them)?" 72 Or, benefit they you or hurt they you? 73 They answered: "No; but we found our forefathers doing so." 74 He said: Have you then considered what you have been worshipping: 75 you and those ancient forebears of yours? 76 Yet they are my enemies except the Lord of all the worlds 77 “The One Who created me, so He will guide me.” 78 It is He who gives me food and drink 79 And heals me when I am sick, 80 and who will cause me to die and then will bring me back to life 81 and whom I am eager shall forgive me my sins on the Day of Recompense' 82 My Lord! bestow on me wisdom and join me with the righteous. 83 and appoint me a tongue of truthfulness among the others. 84 And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Pleasure. 85 “And forgive my father* he is indeed astray.” (His paternal uncle) 86 Degrade me not upon the day when they are raised up, 87 the Day on which neither wealth will be of any use, nor children, 88 except what is done in obedience to God with a submissive heart. 89 Paradise will be brought near those who take heed for themselves and follow the straight path; 90 And hell will appear plainly to the erring. 91 And it will be said to them, “Where are those whom you used to worship?” 92 beside Allah? Can they be of any help to you, or even be of any help to themselves?" 93 So they will be overturned into Hellfire, they and the deviators 94 and the hosts of Iblis - all together. 95 Disputing among themselves they will say: 96 "By God, we were most obviously astray 97 When we equalled you with the Lord of the worlds. 98 And none has brought us into error except the Mujrimun [Iblis (Satan) and those of human beings who commit crimes, murderers, polytheists, oppressors, etc.]. 99 Now we have no intercessors 100 nor do we have a truly sincere friend. 101 O that we might return again, and be among the believers!' 102 Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 103 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 104
