He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 you attend to him, 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 And he fears, 9 you pay him no heed. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 How We pour water in showers 25 and let the earth to break open 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 wife and sons, 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
