[AND the tribe of] Ad gave the lie to [one of God's] message-bearers 123 When their brother Hud said unto them: Will ye not ward off (evil)? 124 I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 125 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me: 126 I do not ask for any payment for my preaching. I shall receive my reward from the Lord of the Universe. 127 Build ye on every high place a monument for vain delight? 128 And take ye for yourselves castles that haply ye may abide. 129 “And when you apprehend someone, you seize him mercilessly?” 130 So be fearful of God and follow me. 131 "And keep your duty to Him, fear Him Who has aided you with all (good things) that you know. 132 "He has aided you with cattle and children. 133 And gardens and fountains; 134 "Truly I fear for you the Penalty of a Great Day." 135 They said: it is equal unto us whether thou admonishest or art not of the admonishers. 136 This has been happening all along. 137 “And we will not be punished.” 138 And they denied him, so We destroyed them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 139 Yet surely your Lord is mighty and merciful. 140
