Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O the One Wrapped in piety! (Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) 1 Stand (to prayer) by night, but not all night,- 2 A half thereof, or abate a little thereof, 3 or add a little), and chant the Koran very distinctly; 4 We are about to cast upon you a weighty Word. 5 Lo! the vigil of the night is (a time) when impression is more keen and speech more certain. 6 Indeed during the day you have a long schedule of occupations. 7 But keep in remembrance the name of thy Lord and devote thyself to Him whole-heartedly. 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West. There is no god but He. So take Him alone as your protector. 9 And bear patiently what they say and avoid them with a becoming avoidance. 10 And leave Me and the rejecters, the possessors of ease and plenty, and respite them a little. 11 for with Us there are fetters, and a furnace, 12 and food that chokes, and a painful chastisement, 13 On the Day when the earth with all its mountains quake and the mountains become heaps of shifting sand. 14 Verily We! We have sent unto you an apostle, a witness over you, even as We sent unto Fir'awn an apostle. 15 But Firon disobeyed the apostle, so We laid on him a violent hold. 16 If you persist in denying the truth how will you escape the Day that will turn the children's hair grey. 17 On that day, the heavens will be rent asunder. This is the decree of God which has already been ordained. 18 Lo! This is a Reminder. Let him who will, then, choose a way unto his Lord. 19
