And certainly did We send Moses with Our signs to Pharaoh and his establishment, and he said, "Indeed, I am the messenger of the Lord of the worlds." 46 So when he brought Our signs to them, they started mocking at them! 47 although each sign that We showed them was weightier than the preceding one: and [each time] We took them to task through suffering, so that they might return [to Us]. 48 And they said: magician! supplicate thy Lord for us for that which He hath covenanted with thee; verily we shall let ourselves be guided. 49 But when We eased them of the torment, behold! they broke their word. 50 And the Pharaoh said to his people: "O people, is not mine the kingdom of Egypt and these rivers that flow at my feet? Can you still not comprehend? 51 Am I (not) better than him who is contemptible, and cannot even express himself clearly? 52 Why, then, have armlets of gold not been set upon him, or angels sent along with him? 53 Thus he [Fir'aun (Pharaoh)] befooled and misled his people, and they obeyed him. Verily, they were ever a people who were Fasiqun (rebellious, disobedient to Allah). 54 So, when they had angered Us, We took vengeance on them, and We drowned them all together; 55 And We made them a precedent and an ensample unto those after. 56
