Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha'. Mim. 1 By the Clear Book 2 surely We sent it down on a blessed night, We have always sent warnings, 3 (We revealed it on the Night) wherein every matter is wisely determined 4 an order from Us. We are ever sending. 5 as a Mercy from your Lord. Surely He is All-Hearing, All-Seeing, 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, if you would be sure. 7 There is no god but He; He gives life and causes death, your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of yore. 8 yet, they toy with their doubts. 9 So watch for the Day when the sky will come down with a pall of smoke, 10 covering the people; this is a painful chastisement. 11 [They will say], "Our Lord, remove from us the torment; indeed, we are believers." 12 How can there be an admonition unto them, when surely there came unto them an apostle manifest! 13 and they turned away, saying, "He is a trained and insane person". 14 Yet We will hold the scourge back for a while, (but no sooner than We will do so) you will revert to your old ways. 15 One day We shall seize you with a mighty onslaught: We will indeed (then) exact Retribution! 16 ۞ We tried the people of Pharaoh before them: a noble messenger was sent to them, 17 Saying: "Restore to me the Servants of Allah: I am to you an messenger worthy of all trust; 18 Do not think yourselves to be above God: I have come to you with clear authority. 19 and, behold, it is with my Sustainer - and your Sustainer - that I seek refuge against all your endeavours to revile me. 20 But if you do not believe me, then leave me alone." 21 Then he called upon his Lord: These are a guilty people. 22 (Allah said): "Depart you with My slaves by night. Surely, you will be pursued. 23 Cross the sea by cutting a path through it. Pharaoh's army will be drowned. 24 How much they left behind of gardens and springs 25 and sown fields, fine sitting places, 26 and [all that] life of ease in which they used to delight! 27 Thus it was. And [then] We made another people heirs [to what they had left,] 28 And the heaven and the earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved. 29
