Said the eminent among the people of Pharaoh, "Indeed, this is a learned magician 109 "He wishes to drive you away from the land. So what do you advise?" 110 They said: put him and his brother off, and send unto the cities callers. 111 who should bring to you every skillful magician." 112 And the magicians came unto Fir'awn. They said: surely there is for us a reward if we are the overcomers. 113 Pharaoh replied, "Certainly, and you shall also become my courtiers." 114 Then they said: 'O Moses, will you [first] throw your rod, or shall we throw?' 115 He said: cast ye. Then when they cast down, they enchanted the eyes of the people, and terrified them and brought mighty magic to bear. 116 Then We revealed to Moses: 'Now, throw down your staff' And thereupon it swallowed up their false invention. 117 ۞ Thus the truth prevailed and what they had produced came to nothing: 118 Pharaoh and his men were defeated and utterly humiliated. 119 The sorcerers fell to the ground in homage, 120 They said: We believe in the Lord of the worlds, 121 The Lord of Musa and Haroun. 122 The Pharaoh said to the magicians, "You declared your belief in him (Moses) without my permission. This is a plot to throw my people out of their city. But you will soon know. 123 I shall assuredly cut off alternately your hands and feet, then I shall crucify you all together.' 124 They replied: 'We shall surely turn to our Lord. 125 Will you punish us just because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us? Our Lord! Shower us with perseverance and cause us to die as those who have submitted [to You].' 126
