Light (Al-Noor)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ This is a chapter which We have sent down, and which We have ordained; and therein We have sent down revelations manifest, that haply ye may be admonished. 1 Flog the adulteress and the adulterer, each one of them, with a hundred lashes. Let no pity for them cause you to disobey God, if you truly believe in God and the Last Day; and let their punishment be witnessed by a number of believers. 2 The adulterer shall not marry except an adulteress or a polytheist woman, and none shall marry an adulteress except an adulterer or a polytheist; and this is forbidden for the believers. 3 Those who defame chaste women and do not bring four witnesses should be punished with eighty lashes, and their testimony should not be accepted afterwards, for they are profligates, 4 except those among them that afterwards repent and mend their ways. Allah is Forgiving, Merciful. 5 And those who accuse their wives and have no witnesses except themselves, let them testify by swearing by Allah four times that he is of the truthful, 6 Then the fifth time he shall declare that Allah's curse be upon him if he be false (in his charge). 7 The wife shall receive no punishment, if she bears witness four times in the name of God that her husband has lied 8 Her fifth oath being that the curse of God be on her if her husband should be speaking the truth. 9 If Allah had not shown you His grace and mercy and if Allah had not been most Forgiving and All-Wise, (you would have been in a great fix because of accusing your wives). 10
