In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O you wrapped in garments (i.e. Prophet Muhammad SAW)! 1 Arise [to pray] the night, except for a little - 2 of one-half thereof - or make it a little less than that, 3 Or add to it, and recite the Quran as it ought to be recited. 4 Indeed, We will cast upon you a heavy word. 5 surely the first part of the night is heavier in tread, more upright in speech, 6 You have by day prolonged occupations. 7 Remember the name of your Lord, and devote yourself to Him wholeheartedly. 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West. There is no god but He. So take Him alone as your protector. 9 And bear thou patiently what they say, and forsake them graciously. 10 Leave it to Me to deal with the affluent ones who give the lie (to the Truth), and bear with them for a while. 11 Verily with Us are heavy fetters and Scorch. 12 and food that chokes, and grievous suffering 13 on the Day when the earth and the mountains will be convulsed and the mountains will [crumble and] become like a sand-dune on the move! 14 Lo! We have sent unto you a messenger as witness against you, even as We sent unto Pharaoh a messenger. 15 But Firon disobeyed the apostle, so We laid on him a violent hold. 16 Then how, if ye disbelieve, will ye protect yourselves upon the day which will turn children grey, 17 The very heaven being then rent asunder. His promise is to be fulfilled. 18 Indeed, this is a reminder, so whoever wills may take to his Lord a way. 19
