In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you who are wrapped up in your mantle, 1 Stand (to pray) all night, except a little. 2 Half of it, or lessen it a little, 3 Or a little more, and recite the Qur'an slowly and distinctly. 4 Behold, We shall bestow upon thee a weighty message 5 Surely in the watches of the night the soul is most receptive and words more telling. 6 whereas by day a long chain of doings is thy portion. 7 Glorify the Name of your Lord, the Lord of the eastern and western regions, with due sincerity. 8 Lord of the east and the west! No God is there but He! Wherefore take Him for thy trustee. 9 And be patient over what they say and avoid them with gracious avoidance. 10 And leave them to Me - these wealthy deniers - and give them some respite. 11 We have in store for them heavy fetters and a blazing Fire, 12 And a food that chokes, and a painful torment. 13 On the Day the earth and the mountains will convulse and the mountains will become a heap of sand pouring down. 14 We have sent a messenger who is a witness over you, just as We sent a messenger to Pharoah before you. 15 Then Fir'awn disobeyed the apostle, wherefore We laid hold of him with a painful hold. 16 How, then, if you refuse to acknowledge the truth, will you protect yourselves on that Day which shall turn the hair of children grey, 17 Whereon the sky will be cleft asunder? His Promise needs must be accomplished. 18 Lo! This is a Reminder. Let him who will, then, choose a way unto his Lord. 19
