The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By oath of the night when it covers 1 And the day when it shines in all its glory, 2 and by the creation of the male and the female. 3 Certainly, your efforts and deeds are diverse (different in aims and purposes); 4 Then as for him who giveths and feareth Him. 5 And testifieth to the Good, 6 So We will very soon provide him ease. 7 But he who is greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient. 8 And gives the lie to the best,- 9 We will ease him toward difficulty. 10 And his riches will not avail him when he falls headlong (into the Abyss). 11 Verily We take upon Ourselves to guide, 12 and to Us belong the Next Life and the present. 13 I have warned you then about a raging Fire: 14 None shall enter it save the most wretched, 15 even he who cried lies, and turned away; 16 But the righteous one will avoid it - 17 And gives of his wealth that he may grow in virtue, 18 and confers no favour on any man for recompense, 19 but only out of a longing for the countenance of his Sustainer, the All-Highest: 20 and he shall surely be satisfied. 21
