In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O thou enwrapped! 1 Rise to pray in the night except a little, 2 A half thereof, or abate a little thereof 3 Or add (a little) thereto - and chant the Qur'an in measure, 4 We shall soon entrust to you a message heavy (with solemnity). 5 Surely the rising by night is the firmest way to tread and the best corrective of speech. 6 Indeed, for you by day is prolonged occupation. 7 But recite the name of your Lord withdrawing yourself from everything, devoting yourself exclusively to Him. 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West; there is no god except Him. Take Him for your Guardian. 9 Bear patiently with what they say and with a fine abandonment forsake them. 10 And leave Me Alone to deal with the beliers (those who deny My Verses, etc.), and those who are in possession of good things of life. And give them respite for a little while. 11 With Us are Fetters (to bind them), and a Fire (to burn them), 12 And a food that chokes, and a painful torment. 13 upon the day when the earth and the mountains shall quake and the mountains become a slipping heap of sand. 14 We have indeed sent a Noble Messenger towards you, a present witness over you – the way We had sent a Noble Messenger towards Firaun. 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed Our Messenger, so We seized him with a terrible seizing. 16 How then, if you disbelieve, will you preserve yourselves on the day which will even turn the children hoary? 17 The Day when the heavens will be rent asunder and God's promise shall be fulfilled. 18 Indeed, this is a reminder, so whoever wills may take to his Lord a way. 19
