The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Rise up and warn! 2 And your Lord glorify 3 and purify your clothing, 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely, 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 And children present [with him] 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 For he thought and he plotted;- 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 I will cast him into hell. 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 Blackening the skins. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 We have appointed none but angels to guard the Fire, and made their number only as a trial for the unbelievers, so that those to whom the Book was given are certain and those who believe increase in belief. And that those who were given the Book, and those who believe will not be in doubt. And that those in whose hearts there is a sickness, together with the unbelievers, may say: 'What did Allah intend by this as an example' As such, Allah leaves in error whom He will and He guides whomsoever He will. None knows the hosts of your Lord except He. This is no more than a Reminder to humans. 31
