The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ Of what do they question one another? 1 They quarrel about the great news 2 whereupon they are at variance? 3 Verily, they shall soon (come to) know! 4 Nay! Nay! they shall soon know. 5 Did We not make the earth a bed? 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 and We made your sleep a rest, 9 And made the night as a covering, 10 And We have made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 We have built above you seven mighty heavens, 12 And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour? 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water, 14 So that We bring forth thereby corn and vegetation. 15 And orchards full of trees and interlacing boughs. 16 Surely the Day of Judgement has an appointed time; 17 On that Day when the trumpet shall be sounded, you shall come in droves, 18 And the heaven is opened and will become gateways 19 And the mountains shall be moved off so that they shall remain a mere semblance. 20 Verily the Hell is an ambuscade: 21 a resort for the rebellious; 22 Living therein for ages. 23 Finding neither sleep nor any thing to drink 24 save boiling water and a stinking fluid -- 25 a fitting requital, 26 Behold, they were not expecting to be called to account, 27 And denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial. 28 Everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 So taste (the fruit of what you sowed), for We shall add nothing but torment, 30
