He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 and in awe of God 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 These verses are a reminder 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and pious. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 And grapes and clover, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 and dense orchards, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
