He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 To him you attend; 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 and fearfully, 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 noble and pious. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruits and grass, 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
