Thamud denied the messengers 141 When their brother Salih said unto them: fear ye not? 142 “I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger of Allah to you.” 143 "So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 I do not ask any recompense of you for this. My reward is due from none but the Lord of all the worlds. 145 Do you think that you will be left secure [forever] -- 146 "In gardens and springs. 147 "And corn-fields and date-palms with spathes near breaking (with the weight of fruit)? 148 “And you carve out dwellings in the mountains, with skill?” 149 So fear you God, and obey you me; 150 do not obey the bidding of those who are given to excesses, 151 Who spread corruption in the earth, and reform not. 152 Said they: "Thou art but one of the bewitched! 153 thou art naught but a mortal, like us; then produce a sign, if thou art one of the truthful.' 154 He said, "This is a she-camel. She will have her share of water as you have your share, each on a certain day. 155 "And touch her not with harm, lest the torment of a Great Day seize you." 156 But they ham-strung her: then did they become full of regrets. 157 So the torment took hold of them: verily herein is a sign, but most of them are not believers. 158 Yet verily your Lord is mighty and merciful. 159
