The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
And by the sun and its brightness; 1 And the moon as she follows in his wake, 2 And the day when it shows it, 3 by the night when it covers the earth with darkness, 4 And by oath of the heaven and by oath of Him Who made it. 5 And [by] the earth and He who spread it 6 By the soul, and That which shaped it 7 And its enlightenment as to its wrong and its right;- 8 those who purify their souls will certainly have everlasting happiness 9 And he is indeed a failure who stunteth it. 10 Thamood cried lies in their insolence 11 when that most hapless wretch from among them rushed forward [to commit his evil deed,] 12 And the messenger of Allah [Salih] said to them, "[Do not harm] the she-camel of Allah or [prevent her from] her drink." 13 But they denied him and hamstrung her. So their Lord brought down upon them destruction for their sin and made it equal [upon all of them]. 14 and He fears not the issue thereof. 15
