The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the night enshrouding 1 By the day when it appeareth in glory, 2 And the creating of the male and the female, 3 That your endeavour is for different ends. 4 Then as for him who gives away and guards (against evil), 5 and believes in the truth of what is right, 6 We will pave his way to ease. 7 But he who is a greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient, 8 and he belied the finest 9 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Misery; 10 And his riches will not avail him when he falls headlong (into the Abyss). 11 BEHOLD, it is indeed for Us to grace [you] with guidance; 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 So I have warned you of a Fire which is blazing. 14 where none shall burn except the most wicked, 15 He who denieth and turneth away. 16 and from which the cautious shall be distanced. 17 who spend for the cause of God and purify themselves. 18 And have in his mind no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 But only the desire to seek for the Countenance of their Lord Most High; 20 And he is going to be satisfied. 21
