The Embryo (Al-Alaq)

In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Read in the name of your Lord Who created. 1 Created man from a clot. 2 Recite, and your Lord is the most Generous - 3 who has taught [man] the use of the pen 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 Yes indeed, man is surely rebellious. 6 whenever he believes himself to be self-sufficient: 7 Lo! unto thy Lord is the return. 8 Bethinkest thou him who forbiddeth, 9 A slave (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) when he prays? 10 Have you thought, if he had been on guidance 11 or if he commands others to maintain piety!? 12 Did you consider: what if he gives the lie (to the Truth) and turns away (from it)? 13 does he not know that Allah sees? 14 No indeed; surely, if he gives not over, We shall seize him by the forelock, 15 The lying, sinful forelock - 16 Then, let him call (for help) to his council (of comrades): 17 We shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 No! Do not obey him. But prostrate and draw near [to Allah]. ۩ 19

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
