Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 By the Clear Book 2 Behold, from on high have We bestowed it on a blessed night: for, verily, We have always been warning [man]. 3 therein every wise bidding 4 As commands from Us. It is indeed We who send (messengers), 5 as a mercy from your Lord, He hears all and knows all, 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all between them, if ye (but) have an assured faith. 7 La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). It is He Who gives life and causes death, your Lord and the Lord of your fore-fathers. 8 Rather they are in doubt, playing. 9 Watch for the Day when the heaven will bring clear smoke, 10 Covering the people, this is a painful torment. 11 [They will say], "Our Lord, remove from us the torment; indeed, we are believers." 12 But how will they take heed? Such are they that a Messenger came to them clearly expounding the Truth, 13 And they had turned away from him and said: One taught (by others), a madman? 14 Surely We will remove the punishment a little, (but) you will surely return (to evil). 15 on the Day when We shall seize [all sinners] with a most mighty onslaught, We shall, verily, inflict Our retribution [on you as well]! 16 ۞ AND, INDEED, [long] before their time did We try Pharaoh's people [in the same way]: for there came unto them a noble apostle, [who said:] 17 Saying: "Restore to me the slaves of Allah (i.e. the Children of Israel). Verily! I am to you a Messenger worthy of all trust, 18 And [saying], "Be not haughty with Allah. Indeed, I have come to you with clear authority. 19 I have sought refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you stone me [to death]. 20 'But if so be that you believe me not, go you apart from me!' 21 Moses addressed his Lord, saying, "Lord, these people are sinners". 22 (He was told): “Set out with My servants by night for you will certainly be pursued. 23 And leave thou the sea divided: verily they are a host to be drowned. 24 How many of the gardens and fountains have they left! 25 And cornfields and goodly positions. 26 And favours amongst which they were rejoicing! 27 Such was their end, and what had been theirs We gave to other people to inherit. 28 Neither did the heavens weep for them, nor the earth, nor were they granted respite. 29
