The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ Of what do they ask one another? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 concerning which they are in disagreement! 3 Verily, they shall soon (come to) know! 4 Yes, indeed, before long they will learn all about it. 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 And the high hills bulwarks? 7 Have We not created you in pairs, 8 And made your sleep for rest, 9 And We have made the night a covering. 10 and made the day to seek livelihood, 11 And built seven strong roofs above you. 12 and We have set therein a glowing lamp. 13 and have sent down from the clouds, pouring rain 14 That We may bring forth thereby grain and vegetation 15 And gardens of luxurious growth? 16 VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] has indeed its appointed time: 17 The Day when the Trumpet will be blown, and you shall come forth in crowds (groups); 18 And the heaven is opened and will become gateways 19 The mountains will be driven away and become like mirages. 20 Lo! hell lurketh in ambush, 21 for the insolent a resort, 22 therein to tarry for ages, 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink, 24 But boiling and intensely cold water, 25 An exact recompense (according to their evil crimes). 26 Verily they were wont not to look for a reckoning. 27 and they absolutely belied Our verses, 28 And We have kept recorded everything in a Book, accounted for. 29 Taste therefore. We shall not increase you in aught but torment. 30
