The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
READ IN THE name of your Lord who created, 1 Created man from an embryo; 2 Recite, and your Lord is the most Generous - 3 who has taught [man] the use of the pen 4 Has taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay, but verily man is rebellious 6 whenever he believes himself to be self-sufficient: 7 Lo! unto thy Lord is the return. 8 HAST THOU ever considered him who tries to prevent 9 A servant when he prays? 10 Seest thou if he is on (the road of) Guidance?- 11 Or enjoineth piety? 12 What is your opinion – if he denies and turns away, how wretched will be his state! 13 Did he not realise that Allah is watching? 14 Nay! If he (Abu Jahl) ceases not, We will catch him by the forelock, 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 [the while] We shall summon the forces of heavenly chastisement! 18 No, not at all. Never obey him. But prostrate yourself and become nigh (to your Lord). ۩ 19
