The chiefs of the people of Fir'awn said: verily this is a magician knowing. 109 "His plan is to get you out of your land: then what is it ye counsel?" 110 They said, "Let him and his brother wait awhile, and send into the cities summoners, 111 “To bring all the expert magicians to you.” 112 And the sorcerers came to Pharaoh, saying, 'We shall surely have a wage, if we should be the victors?' 113 He said: Yes, and you shall certainly be of those who are near (to me). 114 Then they said: 'O Moses, will you [first] throw your rod, or shall we throw?' 115 Said Moses: "Throw ye (first)." So when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people, and struck terror into them: for they showed a great (feat of) magic. 116 And we revealed unto Musa: cast down thy rod. And lo! it was swallowing up that which they had feigned. 117 ۞ Thus was the Truth vindicated and that which they were doing was made vain. 118 And thus were they vanquished there and then, and became utterly humiliated. 119 The sorcerers fell to the ground in homage, 120 saying: 'We believe in the Lord of the universe, 121 The Lord of Musa and Haroun. 122 Said Pharaoh: "Have you come to believe in him ere I have given you permission? Behold, this is indeed a plot which you have cunningly devised in this [my] city in order to drive out its people hence! But in time you shall come to know, [my revenge]: 123 I shall assuredly cut off alternately your hands and feet, then I shall crucify you all together.' 124 They said, “We shall return to our Lord.” 125 You would punish us only because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they were shown to us. Our Lord, pour patience upon us, and cause us to die in a state of submission to You." 126
