Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha'. Mim. 1 By the luminious Book. 2 surely We sent it down on a blessed night, We have always sent warnings, 3 Therein is decreed every affair of wisdom 4 As commands from Us. It is indeed We who send (messengers), 5 A mercy from thy Lord. Lo! He, even He is the Hearer, the Knower, 6 Lord of the heavens and earth, and all that between them is if you have faith. 7 There is no god but He: He gives life and causes death. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers of yore. 8 But they are in doubt, amusing themselves. 9 But watch thou (O Muhammad) for the day when the sky will produce visible smoke 10 covering the people; this is a painful chastisement. 11 Lord, remove this torment from us for we are believers". 12 How can there be for them an admonition (at the time when the torment has reached them), when a Messenger explaining things clearly has already come to them. 13 Whereas they had then turned away from him and said, “He is a madman, tutored!”? 14 We are removing the punishment a little, but you revert. 15 But on that Day We will assault them most mightily, and then We shall revenge! 16 ۞ Indeed before that We subjected the Pharaonites to the same test. A noble Messenger came to them 17 "Give in unto me, O God's bondmen! Verily, I am an apostle [sent] unto you, worthy of trust! 18 Do not set yourselves above God: I bring you clear authority. 19 "And truly, I seek refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me (or call me a sorcerer or kill me). 20 But if you do not believe me, then leave me alone." 21 But then, [when they beset him with their enmity,] he called out to his Sustainer, "These are [indeed] people lost in sin!" 22 (He was told): “Set out with My servants by night for you will certainly be pursued. 23 “And leave the sea as it is, parted in several places; indeed that army will be drowned.” 24 How many gardens and water-springs they left behind! 25 sown fields, and how noble a station, 26 and the life of ease in which they took delight! 27 Even so (it was), and We made it an inheritance for other folk; 28 So the heaven and the earth did not weep for them, nor were they respited. 29
