And certainly We delivered the children of Israel from the abasing chastisement, 30 [inflicted on them] by Pharaoh, seeing that he was truly outstanding among those who waste their own selves; 31 We gave preference to the Israelites over the other people with Our knowledge 32 and showed them signs in which there was a clear test. 33 As to these (Quraish), they say forsooth: 34 “This is our first and only death, and we shall never be raised again. 35 Bring us our fathers, if you speak truly!' 36 Are they, then, better than the people of Tubba and those before them, whom We destroyed because they were truly lost in [the same] sin? 37 We created not the heavens, the earth, and all between them, merely in (idle) sport: 38 We did not create them except in truth, but most of them do not know. 39 Surely the day of separation is their appointed term, of all of them 40 A Day whereon a friend shall not avail a friend at all, nor shall they be helped. 41 save him upon whom God has mercy; He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 42
