Dawn (Al-Fajr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the dawn 1 And by ten nights, 2 Consider the multiple and the One! 3 and by the passing night, 4 Is there in that an oath for the mindful? 5 Dost thou not consider how thy Lord dealt with (the tribe of) A'ad, 6 (And) the tall giants of Iram? 7 The like of whom were never created in the realm; 8 (Also consider how He dealt with) the Thamud, who carved their houses out of the rocks in the valley. 9 And with Pharaoh, lord of stakes? 10 who transgressed in the countries of the world 11 and brought about great corruption therein: 12 Therefore did thy Lord pour on them a scourge of diverse chastisements: 13 your Lord keeps an eye on (all evil-doing people). 14 As for man, whenever his Lord trieth him by honouring him, and is gracious unto him, he saith: My Lord honoureth me. 15 But when He tries him (differently), then straitens to him his means of subsistence, he says: My Lord has disgraced me. 16 Nay! but you do not honor the orphan, 17 And urge not on the feeding of AlMiskin (the poor)! 18 and you devour the inheritance greedily, 19 And love wealth with all your heart. 20 No indeed! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 And your Lord comes and (also) the angels in ranks, 22 And Hell, that Day, is brought (face to face),- on that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance profit him? 23 He will say: "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life [to come]!" 24 So on that day, no one punishes like He does! 25 and none can bind with bonds like His! 26 [But to the righteous, God will say], "O soul at peace, 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased (with him), well-pleasing (Him), 28 Then enter the ranks of My chosen bondmen! 29 And come into My Paradise! 30
