A numerous company from among the first, 39 and a multitude of the later people. 40 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 41 In scorching wind and boiling hot water. 42 Under the shadow of thick black smoke 43 which will neither be cool nor soothing. 44 Surely they had lived before in luxury, 45 and would persist in heinous sinning, 46 And they used to say, “When we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, will we surely be raised again?” 47 "And also our forefathers?" 48 (Muhammad), say, "All the ancient and later generations 49 Are going to be assembled on the appointed time of a Day Known. 50 Then you, the erring ones and those that gave the lie to the Truth, 51 Ye verily will eat of a tree called Zaqqum 52 Then will fill your bellies with it. 53 and thereupon you shall drink boiling water, 54 lapping it down like thirsty camels.' 55 This shall be their hospitality on the Day of Doom. 56 We created you; therefore why will you not believe? 57 Have you thought about [the semen] that you discharge -- 58 Do you make a human out of it, or is it We Who create? 59 We have destined death for you and no one can challenge Us 60 That We may substitute others like unto you and produce you into that which ye know not. 61 And verily ye know the first creation. Why, then, do ye not reflect? 62 Have you thought about what crops you plant? 63 Do you make it grow or is it We who make it grow? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry powder, and ye would be left in wonderment, 65 "We are ruined, 66 nay, we have been robbed!' 67 Have ye observed the water which ye drink? 68 Is it you who sent it down from the clouds or is it We who have sent it down? 69 We could make it brackish, if We pleased; so why do you not acknowledge thanks? 70 See ye the Fire which ye kindle? 71 Did you make its timber to grow, or did We make it? 72 We have made it to be a reminder and a benefit for the wayfarers. 73 Extol, then, the limitless glory of thy Sustainer's mighty name! 74
