Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you who have wrapped up in your garments! 1 Stand (to prayer) by night, but not all night,- 2 A half thereof, or abate a little thereof 3 or add a little), and chant the Koran very distinctly; 4 Indeed We shall soon ordain a heavy responsibility upon you. 5 Prayer at night leaves the strongest impression on one's soul and the words spoken are more consistent. 6 True, there is for thee by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties: 7 So remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with exclusive devotion. 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West; there is no god except Him. Take Him for your Guardian. 9 Bear patiently with what they say, and ignore them politely. 10 And leave Me Alone to deal with the beliers (those who deny My Verses, etc.), and those who are in possession of good things of life. And give them respite for a little while. 11 We have fetters (for them) and a blazing fire, 12 And food that chokes, and a painful punishment. 13 On the day the earth and mountains will rock violently, and the mountains turn to a heap of poured-out sand. 14 Surely We have sent unto you a Messenger as a witness over you, even as We sent to Pharaoh a Messenger, 15 But the Pharaoh disobeyed the apostle; so We seized him with a grievous punishment. 16 How, then, if you refuse to acknowledge the truth, will you protect yourselves on that Day which shall turn the hair of children grey, 17 The heaven will split asunder with its grief; the promise of Allah will surely occur. 18 Lo! This is a Reminder. Let him who will, then, choose a way unto his Lord. 19
