The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 Arise and warn, 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 Pollution shun! 5 Do not give, thinking to gain greater 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 and sons standing before him, 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 And yet he desires that I should add more! 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Behold, [when Our messages are conveyed to one who is bent on denying the truth,] he reflects and meditates [as to how to disprove them] 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 He looked (at others); 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
