The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Of what do they ask one another? 1 About the great news, (i.e. Islamic Monotheism, the Quran, which Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) brought and the Day of Resurrection, etc.), 2 concerning which they are in disagreement! 3 But they will soon come to know. 4 Nay! Nay! they shall soon know. 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 And it is We who created you in pairs. 8 And made your sleep [a means for] rest 9 and the night as a cover, 10 and the day as time for you to make a living? 11 And built seven strong roofs above you. 12 and have placed [therein the sun,] a lamp full of blazing splendour. 13 And We have sent down from the rain-clouds water plenteous. 14 That We may bring forth thereby grain and vegetation 15 And gardens dense and luxuriant. 16 VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] has indeed its appointed time: 17 The day the trumpet blast is sounded you will come in hordes; 18 The heavens will have openings like doors. 19 And the mountains shall be moved away from their places and they will be as if they were a mirage. 20 Verily the Hell is an ambuscade: 21 a return for the insolent, 22 Where they will remain for aeons, 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink. 24 Except hot boiling water and hot pus discharged from the people of hell. 25 Requital corresponding. 26 They did not expect such a Judgment 27 And denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial. 28 And everything We have recorded in a book. 29 'Taste! We shall increase you not save in chastisement.' 30
