The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
I CALL TO WITNESS those who dive and drag, 1 And by those who gently draw out the souls of the blessed, 2 And [by] those who glide [as if] swimming 3 Then those who are foremost going ahead, 4 And those who arrange [each] matter, 5 On the Day the blast [of the Horn] will convulse [creation], 6 Followed by the second blast, 7 On that Day will [men's] hearts be throbbing, 8 and eyes will be humbly cast down. 9 They say: "Shall we go back to our original state 10 "Even after we are crumbled bones?" 11 They said, “So this return is an obvious loss!” 12 But all it will take is a single blast, 13 And lo! they all shall appear on the surface. 14 Has there come to you the story of Musa (Moses)? 15 When his Lord called to him in Tuwa's holy vale? 16 and directed him: “Go to Pharaoh, he has rebelled, 17 And say: 'Would you like to grow (in virtue)? 18 [If so,] then I shall guide thee towards [a cognition of] thy Sustainer, so that [henceforth] thou wilt stand in awe [of Him].'" 19 So Moosa showed him a magnificent sign. 20 But Pharaoh denied and disobeyed. 21 and brusquely turned his back [on Moses]; 22 and then he gathered [his great ones,] and called [unto his people,] 23 And he said: I am your Lord, most high. 24 you pay attention 25 Surely, in this there is a lesson for he that fears! 26
