The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Woe to the defrauders, 1 Those who when they take the measure from mankind demand it full, 2 but, when they measure for them or weigh for them, do skimp. 3 Think they not that they will be resurrected (for reckoning), 4 On a mighty Day. 5 the Day when people will stand before the Lord of the Worlds? 6 NAY, VERILY, the record of the wicked is indeed [set down] in a mode inescapable! 7 And what could make thee conceive what that that mode inescapable will be? 8 The record is a sealed text. 9 Woe that day unto those who cry it lies, 10 who cry lies to the Day of Doom; 11 None belies it except every guilty sinner. 12 [and so,] whenever Our messages are conveyed to them, they but say: "Fables of ancient times!" 13 No indeed! Their own deeds have cast a veil over their hearts. 14 Nay, verily, from [the grace of] their Sustainer shall they on that Day be debarred; 15 Then verily they will be roasted into the Scorch. 16 and they will be told, "This is what you were wont to belie." 17 No indeed; the book of the pious is in Illiyun; 18 And what will explain to thee what 'Illiyun is? 19 a written record, 20 which those angels closest to God will bear witness to. 21 Indeed, the righteous will be in pleasure 22 On thrones, watching. 23 You will find in their faces the brightness of bliss. 24 They will be given a drink of pure wine whereon the seal [of God] will have been set, 25 its seal will be of musk -- for this let the aspirants aspire -- 26 Blended with the water of Tasnim, (heights ultimate of evolution), 27 A fountain whereof will drink those brought nigh. 28 The sinners laughed at the believers 29 And when they passed by them, they winked at one another. 30 and whenever they return to people of their own kind, they return full of jests; 31 and when they saw the believers, they said: “Lo! These are the erring ones”; 32 Yet they were not sent as watchers over them. 33 But on the Day [of Judgment,] they who had attained to faith will [be able to] laugh at the [erstwhile] deniers of the truth: 34 while reclining on couches and reviewing (the bounties given to them). 35 Will not the Unbelievers have been paid back for what they did? 36
