The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the heaven, and At-Tariq (the night-comer, i.e. the bright star); 1 And have you understood what the nightly arriver is? 2 It is the star that shines with a piercing brightness -- 3 There is no soul which is not guarded (by the two angels who record all of its deeds). 4 So let man see from what he is created! 5 He is created of water pouring forth, 6 issuing between the loins and the breast-bones. 7 Surely He is able to bring him back 8 On the day when hidden thoughts shall be searched out. 9 He will have no strength or helper. 10 By the heaven with its recurring cycle of rain, 11 And the earth splitting (with plants); 12 Verily! This (the Quran) is the Word that separates (the truth from falsehood, and commands strict legal laws for mankind to cut the roots of evil). 13 And it is not amusement. 14 They are cunningly devising, 15 but I shall bring all their scheming to nought. 16 Therefore grant a delay to the Unbelievers: Give respite to them gently (for awhile). 17
