۞ (Then will the command be given): “Muster all the wrong-doers and their spouses and the deities whom they used to serve 22 other than Allah, and guide them to the Path of Hell! 23 and stop them there for questioning: 24 'Why do you not help one another? 25 No indeed; but today they resign themselves in submission 26 And they will approach one another blaming each other. 27 Some [of them] will say: "Behold, you were wont to approach us [deceptively] from the right!" 28 They answer: Nay, but ye (yourselves) were not believers. 29 "Nor had we any authority over you. Nay, it was ye who were a people in obstinate rebellion! 30 Now the Word of our Lord hath been fulfilled concerning us. Lo! we are about to taste (the doom). 31 So we led you astray, for we ourselves were erring. 32 On that Day they will all share the punishment: 33 Even so We do with the sinners; 34 They were the ones, who on being told, "God is only One," become puffed-up with pride 35 saying, 'What, shall we forsake our gods for a poet possessed?' 36 Aye! he hath come with the truth, and he confesseth to the sent ones. 37 Ye shall indeed taste of the Grievous Penalty;- 38 and not be recompensed, except according to what you were doing.' 39 But Allah's chosen servants (shall be spared this woeful end). 40 For them is the sustenance known to Us. 41 Fruits, and they shall be highly honored, 42 In gardens of delight, 43 On couches facing one another; 44 Round them will be passed a cup of pure wine; 45 White and delicious to the drinkers; 46 No bad effect is there in it, nor from it will they be intoxicated. 47 And with them will be maidens (houris) who restrain their wide glances 48 As if they were eggs, safely hidden. 49 They advance one upon another, asking each other questions. 50 One of them says, 'I had a comrade 51 "Who used to say, 'what! art thou amongst those who bear witness to the Truth (of the Message)? 52 [that] after we have died and become mere dust and bones we shall, forsooth, be brought to judgment?"' 53 And he will reply: 'Are you looking down (into Hell)' 54 Then he will look downwards, and will see him in the depths of Hell. 55 He will say to him: -- By Allah, you almost ruined me. 56 Had it not been for the grace of my Lord I too would have been there (in Hell). 57 Then he will say [to his blessed companions], "Are we not going to die, 58 “Except our earlier death, and nor will we be punished?” 59 “This is, most certainly, the supreme success.” 60 For the like of this, then, let the workers work. 61 Is that (Paradise) better entertainment or the tree of Zaqqum (a horrible tree in Hell)? 62 We have appointed it as a trial for the evildoers. 63 It is a tree that grows at the bottom of Hell. 64 and its fruits are like the heads of devils. 65 and they eat of it, and of it fill their bellies, 66 Then on the top of that they will be given boiling water to drink so that it becomes a mixture (of boiling water and Zaqqum in their bellies). 67 Then surely their return is towards hell. 68 They found their fathers had gone astray; 69 So they hastily follow their footsteps! 70 And certainly most of the ancients went astray before them, 71 and We had sent among them Messengers to warn them. 72 See how terrible was the end of those who were warned. 73 Other than the chosen creatures of God. 74
