Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 By the Scripture that maketh plain 2 We have sent it down in a blessed night (We are ever warning) 3 In it every wise matter is determined 4 [Every] matter [proceeding] from Us. Indeed, We were to send [a messenger] 5 as a mercy from your Lord, He hears all and knows all, 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them, if you really do believe. 7 There is no god but He. He quickeneth and causeth to die: your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. 8 Rather they are in doubt, playing. 9 So watch for the day when the sky begins to emit clear smoke, 10 engulfing the people; this will be a painful punishment. 11 'Our Lord, remove this punishment from us, we are believers' 12 How shall they be reminded, and there came to them an Apostle making clear (the truth), 13 Yet they turn away from him and say: "Tutored (by others), a man possessed!" 14 Indeed, We will remove the torment for a little. Indeed, you [disbelievers] will return [to disbelief]. 15 On the Day We inflict the direst scourge upon all sinners, We will certainly exact retribution. 16 ۞ And certainly We tried before them the people of Firon, and there came to them a noble apostle, 17 (and said): “Deliver to me Allah's servants. I am a trustworthy Messenger to you, 18 "And exalt not yourselves against God: for, verily, I come unto you with a manifest authority [from Him]; 19 I have taken refuge in my Lord and your Lord against your stoning me to death. 20 "But if you believe me not, then keep away from me and leave me alone." 21 But then, [when they beset him with their enmity,] he called out to his Sustainer, "These are [indeed] people lost in sin!" 22 Then (his Lord commanded): Take away My slaves by night. Lo! ye will be followed, 23 Cross the sea by cutting a path through it. Pharaoh's army will be drowned. 24 How many of the gardens and fountains have they left! 25 And cornfields and noble places! 26 And favours amongst which they were rejoicing! 27 Thus (was their end)! And We made other people inherit (those things)! 28 And neither heaven nor earth shed a tear over them: nor were they given a respite (again). 29
