The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the heavens are rent asunder 1 And attentive to her Lord in fear, 2 And when the earth is flattened out, 3 And hath cast out all that was in her, and is empty 4 And it listens to the command of its Lord – and that befits it. 5 O man! verily thou art toiling toward thy Lord a painful toiling, and art about to meet Him. 6 Then as for him who is given his book in his right hand, 7 shall have an easy reckoning 8 And he shall go back to his people joyful. 9 But as for him who is given his book behind his back, 10 He will invoke (his) destruction, 11 And he shall roast into a Blaze. 12 He verily lived joyous with his folk, 13 Surely he thought that he would never return. 14 But no; (how would he not revert)? His Lord was ever watching him. 15 BUT NAY! I call to witness the sunset's [fleeting] afterglow, 16 and the night, and what it [step by step] unfolds, 17 or by the moon when it is full, 18 That you shall most certainly enter one state after another. 19 What is the matter with them, that they do not believe 20 And when the Qur'an is recited to them, they do not prostrate [to Allah]? ۩ 21 Instead, the unbelievers reject it, calling it a lie. 22 But Allah has full knowledge of what they secrete (in their breasts) 23 Therefore give to them glad tidings of a painful punishment, 24 Save those who believe and do righteous good deeds, for them is a reward that will never come to an end (i.e. Paradise). 25
