The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Event will come to pass 1 There is about its happening no lie. 2 The event will be abasing some, and exalting some. 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled. 5 they will become like dust scattered around. 6 And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. 7 The People on the Right: and how fortunate will be the People on the Right! 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 They will dwell in the Gardens of Bliss: 12 (a throng of the ancients 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 And the flesh of fowl such as they desire. 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 beautiful as pearls hidden in their shells. 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 They will not hear any unnecessary or sinful talk 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 They will live amid the thornless lot trees 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 and continuous shade, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 and an abundance of fruits, 32 Unending, unforbidden, 33 and raised couches 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 And made them virgin - pure (and undefiled), - 36 chastely amorous, 37 for the people of the right hand 38
