Allah takes away souls at the time of their death (the temporary death of sleep), and those who do not die during their sleep He withholds that upon which He has decreed death, but turns lose the other till a stated term. Surely, there are signs in this for a nation who contemplate. 42 Have they taken others for intercessors besides God? Say, "Even though they have no power nor understanding?" 43 Say: Allah's is the intercession altogether; His is the kingdom of the heavens and the earth, then to Him you shall be brought back. 44 When God is mentioned alone, then shudder the hearts of those who believe not in the Hereafter, but when those apart from Him are mentioned behold, they rejoice. 45 Say: 'O Allah, the Originator of the heavens and the earth who has knowledge of the Unseen and Visible, You shall judge between the differences of Your worshipers' 46 And had those who are unjust all that is in the earth and the like of it with it, they would certainly offer it as ransom (to be saved) from the evil of the punishment on the day of resurrection; and what they never thought of shall become plain to them from Allah. 47 And the evil of what they had earned would become visible to them; and what they used to mock would surround them from all sides. 48 NOW [thus it is:] when affliction befalls man, he cries out unto Us for help; but when We bestow upon him a boon by Our grace, he says [to himself,] "I have been given [all] this by virtue of [my own] wisdom!" Nay, this [bestowal of grace] is a trial: but most of them understand it not! 49 Those before them had already said it, but they were not availed by what they used to earn. 50 So, the evil results of that which they earned overtook them. And those who did wrong of these [people to whom you (Muhammad SAW) have been sent], will also be overtaken by the evil results (torment) for that which they earned, and they will never be able to escape. 51 Do they not know that God enhances or restricts the provision of any one He will. Surely there are signs in this for people who believe. 52
