The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
READ in the name of thy Sustainer, who has created 1 created man from a clot of congealed blood. 2 Recite, and your Lord is the most Generous - 3 who, by the pen, taught the human being: 4 Has taught man that which he knew not. 5 Yes indeed, man is surely rebellious. 6 That he thinketh himself independent! 7 for, behold, unto thy Sustainer all must return. 8 What is your opinion – regarding him who forbids – 9 A servant when he prays? 10 Bethinkest thou, if he is himself guided, 11 Or enjoineth piety? 12 What thinkest thou? If he cries lies, and turns away - 13 does he not know that Allah sees? 14 No indeed; if he does not desist, We shall drag him by the forelock; 15 A forelock that lies, is sinful. 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We also shall call the infernal guards. 18 By no means! Obey not thou him. Continue to adore, and continue to draw nigh. ۩ 19
