He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 you attended to him, 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 These verses are a reminder 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 lofty and pure, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 And olives and palms 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 and fruits and fodder 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
