Al-Saaffaat 5 of 5
And Jonah too was one of the Messengers. 139 When he ran away to a ship completely laden, 140 He (agreed to) cast lots, and he was condemned: 141 Then the big Fish did swallow him, and he had done acts worthy of blame. 142 And had he not been of those who exalt Allah, 143 He would have indeed remained inside its belly (the fish) till the Day of Resurrection. 144 ۞ Then We cast him on to the vacant surface of the earth while he was sick. 145 And We caused to grow over him a tree, a gourd. 146 And We sent him to a hundred thousand (people) or even more. 147 and they believed. So We let them enjoy life for a while. 148 (Muhammad), ask them, "Do daughters belong to your Lord and sons to them? 149 Or created We the angels females while they were present? 150 No indeed! It is one of their fabrications when they say: 151 'God has begotten?' They are truly liars. 152 "He has chosen daughters in preference to sons"! 153 Woe to you! How terrible is your Judgment. 154 Will ye not then be admonished? 155 Or have you received some clear authority? 156 Bring your Book, if you are truthful. 157 And they have made between Him and the jinn a kinship whereas the jinn assuredly know that they are to be brought up 158 Glory be to God above that they describe, 159 Not thus, however, [behave] God's true servants: 160 So you and your deities 161 Can lead (any) into temptation concerning Allah, 162 Except the one who will go into the blazing fire. 163 As for us, there is none but has an appointed station. 164 and, verily, we too are ranged [before Him in worship]; 165 And we are they who exalt (Allah)' 166 What, would they then say: 167 "If we had a reminder as had the men of old (before the coming of Prophet Muhammad SAW as a Messenger of Allah). 168 then were we God's sincere servants.' 169 But when it came to them, they rejected it. They shall soon come to know (the end of such an attitude). 170 Already has Our Word been passed before (this) to our Servants sent (by Us), 171 that they shall receive Our help 172 And that Our forces,- they surely must conquer. 173 So turn away (O Muhammad SAW) from them for a while, 174 and see them; soon they shall see! 175 Do they wish (indeed) to hurry on our Punishment? 176 When it descends into their courtyard, it will be terrible for those who have already been warned. 177 And turn thou aside from them for a season. 178 And see thou: they themselves shall presently see. 179 Glory be to thy Lord, the Lord of Glory, above that they describe! 180 And peace upon the messengers. 181 And Praise to Allah, the Lord and Cherisher of the Worlds. 182

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.

(1) وقف لازم، حيث يستخدم الرسم الإنجليزي نقطة وقف. (2) وقف جائز مع الوقف أولى، حيث يستخدم الرسم الإنجليزي فاصلة قد تظهر باحتمال الثلثين. When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
