The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the setting star, 1 That your companion is not confused, nor has he gone astray, 2 He does not speak out of his own desires. 3 It is naught save an inspiration that is inspired, 4 something that a very powerful one has imparted to him, 5 Lord of power and wisdom. So he acquired poise and balance, 6 being on the higher horizon, 7 Thereafter he drew nigh, then he let himself down. 8 Till he was (distant) two bows' length or even nearer, 9 He revealed to God's servant whatever he wanted. 10 The heart was not untrue in (making him see) what he saw. 11 What, will you dispute with him about what he sees! 12 And verily he saw him yet another time 13 by the Lote-Tree of the Boundary 14 near which is the Garden of Abode. 15 When that which covers covered the lote-tree; 16 His eye did not waver, nor did it stray, 17 He saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 So did you observe the idols Lat and Uzza? 19 And subsequently the third, the Manat? 20 Shall you have the male issues, and He the female issues? 21 Then that is surely a very unjust distribution! 22 These are nothing but names which ye have devised,- ye and your fathers,- for which Allah has sent down no authority (whatever). They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own souls desire!- Even though there has already come to them Guidance from their Lord! 23 Shall man have whatsoever he wisheth for! 24 To Allah belongs the Eternal life and the first life. 25
