The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
The Hour of Resurrection drew near and the moon split asunder. 1 And when they see a sign, they turn away and say, “Just a customary magic!” 2 They denied (the Truth) and followed their own lusts. Yet everything will come to a decision 3 And surely there hath come unto them news whereof the purport should deter, 4 a Wisdom far-reaching; yet warnings do not avail. 5 Wherefore withdrew thou from them. The Day whereon the summoner will summon mankind unto a thing unpleasant. 6 With looks downcast they will come forth, from the tombs, as though they were locusts scattered abroad. 7 They will hasten forward to the caller, gazes fixed. And the unbelievers will say: "This is the day of untold woe." 8 ۞ The people of Noah cried lies before them; they cried lies to Our servant, and said, 'A man possessed!' And he was rejected. 9 Then he called on his Lord: "I am one overcome: do Thou then help (me)!" 10 We opened the gates of the sky and water started to pour down. 11 We caused the earth to burst forth with springs so that the waters could come together for a predestined purpose. 12 And We bore Noah on the vessel built of planks and nails, 13 running before Our eyes-a recompense for him denied. 14 And indeed, We have caused such [floating vessels] to remain forever a sign [of Our grace unto man]: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 15 How then were My chastisement and My warnings? 16 We have made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would pay attention? 17 Ad treated (the truth) as a lie, so how (great) was My punishment and My warning! 18 Lo! We let loose on them a raging wind on a day of constant calamity, 19 Extracting the people as if they were trunks of palm trees uprooted. 20 And how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 21 And certainly We have made the Quran easy for remembrance, but is there anyone who will mind? 22
