He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 you attended to him, 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 you pay him no heed. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
