The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ I do call to witness this City;- 1 And thou shalt be allowed in yonder city 2 And the parent and the offspring, 3 Verily We have created man into toil and struggle. 4 Thinketh he, that none hath power over him? 5 He says: “I have squandered enormous wealth.” 6 Does he think that no one sees him? 7 Did We not give him two eyes, 8 And a tongue, and a pair of lips?- 9 And shown him the two highways? 10 But he hath made no haste on the path that is steep. 11 and what shall teach thee what is the steep? 12 It is the freeing of a slave; 13 Or feeding on a day of severe hunger 14 To an orphan, having relationship, 15 Or the poor in distress; 16 Then will he be of those who believe, and enjoin patience, (constancy, and self-restraint), and enjoin deeds of kindness and compassion. 17 These are the people of the right. 18 But they who disbelieved in Our signs - those are the companions of the left. 19 Upon them shall be a Fire that will hem them in. 20
